ISTR Events

ISTR runs high quality topical symposia and skills workshops. Symposia are usually open to non-members, skills workshops tend to be 'hands on' are restricted to members only as numbers are limited to ensure delegates can get the maximum benefit from the workshop. The summer symposium includes a visit to somewhere of interest and a formal dinner.

Topics of previous symposia and workshops are available. ISTR Members and Associates are able to download presentations and see pictures from these events.

ISTR AGM and Summer Symposium
4-5 July 2017
Topic: Security versus Safety -complementary or competing needs?
Venue: York

2017 marks twenty five years of ISTR - 25 years driving and supporting the safety agenda in the technology and research sector.
We invite you to the Silver Anniversary AGM and Summer Symposium in the historic city of York on July 4th and 5th.

Hosted by the University of York, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones and hear some outstanding speakers discuss a range of issues facing safety and security professionals and building designers and managers in delivering on both the safety and security agendas.

Our AGM and Anniversary Dinner will take place in the 16th Century King's Manor, and will be preceded by a mid afternoon visit to the National Railway Museum - a must see for visitors to this historic city. Overnight accommodation is in Franklyn House, Heslington West Campus.

Our symposium (July 5th) theme is Safety versus Security -complementary or competing needs? will explore the potential tension between the two. We will focus on how to balance safety and security needs when designing new buildings and ensuring designers correctly understand the nuanced brief. The challenge of implementing systems for monitoring out of hours workers will be discussed and our ever popular Discussion Forum (where we have an opportunity to learn from and share with each other) will round off a busy programme. It promises to be a topical, informative and practical day!

Once again your Exec Committee has worked hard to make attendance affordable for members with our Member Early Bird Rate Two Day Package (including B&B) for just £190, and Member Early Bird Symposium Day Rate of £80.

Booking here is via Eventbrite where you can book by credit card (our preferred option - significantly reduces administration time!) or request an invoice (order number needed).

We look forward to greeting you in York and celebrating the 25th Anniversary of our wonderful member led, inclusive, professional Institute. With my best wishes and looking forward to a great York experience.
